Notes for a care conversation

For these price and insurance notes, September 26, 2026 is the check date.

Ask for the whole bill before deciding

Request a written quote for the proposed care plan. Keep the visit, membership, medicine and tests on separate lines.

Separate the charges on the page

Expect to ask about two charges: a monthly service fee and the medicine itself. Most national online weight-care services reviewed September 26, 2026 advertised a membership and charged separately for medicine.

  • Initial visit: is there a separate charge?
  • Ongoing care: what does membership include?
  • Medicine: which exact item, and how much supply, does the quoted charge include?
  • Tests and follow-up: what is included?
  • Stopping: when does billing end, and how do I cancel?

Compare the same kind of price

A maker’s published price, a cash offer and a bill after insurance can be very different.

Most cash offers reviewed from drug makers for weight and diabetes medicines were about $149 to $499 a month. Those advertised prices were checked September 26, 2026.

Some discounts last only for the first few times the pharmacy supplies your prescription.

For some higher-strength offers, a refill must follow the last delivery by no more than 45 days to keep the discount. Ask the seller what counts as meeting that deadline. A quoted “month” can also mean a different amount of medicine for each product. Ask whether the quote buys a box, a bottle or a set number of days.

  • Which price applies to my exact product and prescription?
  • Does the offer need insurance, and when do its terms end?
  • What does a later refill cost once the offer ends?

Ask the insurer about the reason for treatment

Coverage depends on the plan and the use being treated; a prescription alone does not guarantee payment.

  • Does the plan cover this medicine for my diagnosis?
  • Is prior authorization needed—approval from the insurer before it agrees to pay?
  • What is my share for the medicine, visits and tests?

Medicare has two different coverage arrangements

Medicare’s usual drug coverage excludes treatment for weight loss alone. It may cover other approved uses of the medicine. This coverage rule was checked September 26, 2026.

A separate temporary Medicare programme offers certain weight medicines to eligible people outside the usual drug benefit.

The temporary programme runs July 1, 2026 through December 31, 2027. You pay a $50 monthly copay, meaning your share of the cost. These terms were checked September 26, 2026.

You must qualify for the programme, have a prescription for a medicine it includes and get approval first. It does not cover everyone or every weight-loss medicine.

  • Ask whether your medicine and reason for treatment qualify under the usual Medicare drug coverage or the temporary weight-medicine programme.
  • Ask the plan or prescriber to check eligibility before counting on a price.
